Our Projects

1.1 Mandate
The South African Housing Club was appointed by a mine in Limpopo to implement their Facilitated Home Ownership Programme across all their operations.  The purpose of the project was to encourage and support home ownership, as well as to improve existing housing conditions. The programme was focused on the bargaining unit and junior management.


1.2 Outline of services

  •  Conducting one-on-one consultation in the employee’s preferred language during which the employees can explore their housing opportunities available to them, considering all the options available in their environment.
  • Exploring the costs involved in each of these housing options, as well as the employee’s affordability and financing options, including the home ownership grant provided by the company.
  • Drawing a comprehensive individual Participation Agreement setting out the employees’ chosen housing aspiration, estimated costs and funding plan, as well as the rules of the programme and responsibilities of the employee.
  • Providing advice to the member on getting quotations for his project and selecting service providers as well as all preparation work required.
  • Undertaking a technical feasibility assessment of the building project through our Construction Analysts and providing advice on the range, quantity and price of the materials, ensuring that the minimum standard set by the company housing policy is achieved with the available funds.
  • Giving further support on contracting with his chosen service provider(s) to allow payments against achieved milestones. All payment requests are verified against the approved Implementation Plan to ensure that the project is executed within budget.
  • Ensuring technical building inspections at each milestone and discussed with the employee as owner builder.

1.3 Achievements

    • To date, more than 500 employees enjoyed the benefit of new or improved homeowners through he Facilitated Home Ownership Programme, managed by SAHC.
    • Company housing grant funding were paid directly to service providers and material suppliers which prevented any housing grant leakage and ensured that habitable housing outcomes were achieved in line with the housing policy.
    • The programme supported a range of different housing transactions which included upgrading of existing housing, adding on to existing houses, completing previously half-built houses and improving access to services. Some employees purchased stands and built new houses, while others built on existing land.
    • In all cases employees were assisted to ensure that they have recognised tenure on the stand where the grant was invested.

2.1 South African Housing Club was appointed by a mine in Northen Cape:

  • To implement their Transformed Housing Policy for all their operations – in the Northern Cape, as well as Head office and Saldanha.
  • To rollout the company homeownership grant initiative to help employees to either build or buy a house within a given radius of their place of employment.
  • To facilitate the sale of company owned houses and stands to employees.
  • To drive and execute the company relocation grant initiative from company rented accommodation to owned accommodation.

2.2 Outline of Services

  • Calculating the costs involved in each of these housing options, as well as the employee’s affordability and financing options, including the home ownership grant provided by the company.
  • Drawing up a Participation Agreement setting out the employees’ chosen housing aspiration, estimated costs and funding plan, as well as the rules of the programme and responsibilities of the employee.
  • Providing advice to the member on preparing for the chosen project and getting quotations for his project and selecting service providers as well as all preparation work required.
  • Undertaking a technical feasibility assessment of the building project through our Construction Analysts and providing advice on the range, quantity and price of the materials, ensuring that the minimum standard set by the company housing policy is achieved with the available funds.
  • Giving further support on contracting with his chosen service provider(s) to allow payments against achieved milestones. All payment requests are verified against the approved Implementation Plan to ensure that the project is executed within budget.
  • Ensuring technical building inspections at each milestone and discussed with the employee as owner builder.

2.3 Achievements

More than 1000 employees were assisted to become homeowners or to improve their existing homes.

The sale of company owned stock was facilitated by SAHC providing one-on-one consultations with prospective buyers to establish their affordability, assist in securing financing, explain the details and implication of the sales agreement, the transfer process and the responsibilities of the employee.

Apart from the sales of company housing stock, the programme also supported a different types of housing transactions which included upgrading of existing housing, adding on to existing houses, completing previously half-built houses and improving access to services. Some employees purchased stands and built new houses, while others built on existing land.

Company housing grant funding were paid directly to service providers and material suppliers which prevented any housing grant leakage and ensured that habitable housing outcomes were achieved in line with the housing policy.

Several employees were also assisted to obtain recognised title from their local municipality.

3.1 Mandate

In 2021, The South African Housing Club was entrusted by a mine in Gauteng to manage their Facilitated Home Ownership Programme within which first time homeowners can access a company soft loan to purchase a discounted mine house, or buy a house in the secondary market, build a new house or buy through a Developer.

3.2 Outline of Services

  • Conducting one-on-one consultation in the employee’s preferred language during which the employees can explore the housing opportunities available to them, considering all the options available in their environment.
  • Exploring the costs involved in each of these housing options, as well as the employee’s affordability and financing options, including the home ownership grant provided by the company.
  • Drawing a comprehensive individual Participation Agreement setting out the employees’ chosen housing aspiration, estimated costs and funding plan, as well as the rules of the programme and responsibilities of the employee.
  • Assisting members through the process of house hunting, including accompanying them for viewing.
  • Reviewing the sales agreement, verifying the authenticity of the seller and assessing the reasonability of the asking price and identifying any blind spots that may adversely affect the member.
  • Educating the members about processes of buying a house from a secondary market or a developer and holding their hands throughout all the steps until house is acquired.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with relevant property practitioners ((Estate Agents, Bond Originators, Property developers, Conveyancers and Financial Service Providers) to ensure successful and timeous turnaround times.
4.1 Mandate

To ensure that every building project achieves an outcome of a habitable house that meets the minimum standards set out in the loan agreement.
To ensure zero leakage on the loan.

4.2 Achievements
Since the inception of the Housing access Loan in 2017, SA housing Club has overseen and completed 1300 building projects for approved clients.
Recognising the need of domestic workers to have a house of their own, SAHC has developed a unique service to assist domestic workers to become first time homeowners. Many employers wish to assist and support their domestic worker to become a homeowner but is stuck in the execution of such support as their domestic worker often wishes to invest in homeownership at her place of origin. The South African Housing Club is well positioned to assist Domestic Workers in this regard. A free, no-obligation housing consultation is arranged with the Domestic Worker in which her housing options, affordability and estimated costs of these housing options are discussed. These options are documented in a short report, which she can be shared with her Employer is she gives permission to do so. It will also look at funding options and whether she qualifies for the Government’s First Home Finance subsidy. The report will set out:
  • The preferred Housing Option and estimated costs,
  • Funding options available to her (including First Home Finance subsidy).
  • SAHC support that can be provided to purchase or self-built a house anywhere in South Africa
  • SAHC fees (linked to the size of the project but not exceeding R4500.
